INSIDE MAN

MON & TUE, 9PM, BBC1 DRAMA

Is everyone capable of murder? This is the intriguing question at the heart of BBC1’s star-spangled new thriller Inside Man, as a prisoner on death row in the US, a vicar in a sleepy English town, a maths teacher trapped in a cellar and an investigative journalist suddenly find their lives entwining in the most unexpected way.

Written by Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat, the four-parter features David Tennant as Harry Watling, a successful man of the cloth who makes a series of shocking and somewhat sinister decisions that result in him unwittingly crossing paths with Jefferson Grieff, a criminologist-turned-killer, and deeply principled maths tutor Janice Fife (Dolly Wells). Meanwhile, reporter Beth Davenport (Lydia West) finds herself at the centre of their curious web.

Here, David, 51, and Stanley, 61, give us their take on this story, which hopes to turn the crime-drama genre on its head by exploring ‘who will do it?’ rather than ‘whodunnit?’...

What can you reveal about the catalyst for this thriller?

STANLEY There’s an event that happens in which a woman ends up being trapped in a basement for all the wrong reasons, by all the wrong people.
