ACTING the part

FATHER BROWN
FRIDAY, 1.45PM, BBC1 DRAMA

Kevin Clifton has been working non-stop since leaving BBC1’s sequinned spectacular Strictly Come Dancing after the 2019 series, treading the boards in a number of musicals including Rock of Ages and Singin’ in the Rain.

Now, the professional dancer is delighted to be adding another string to his bow as he makes his TV acting debut with a guest role in popular 1950s-set daytime whodunnit Father Brown. This week’s story, The Last Tango in Kembleford, sees Kevin play the Talent Scout, a dapper character who arrives in the fictional Cotswold village searching for potential chorus-line performers.

Unfortunately, though, his visit coincides with the murder of a dance-school owner. But as crime-solving cleric Father Brown (played by Mark Williams) and Inspector Sullivan (Tom Chambers) set about unravelling the mystery, can housekeeper Brenda (Ruby-May Martinwood) win over the talent-spotter with her dance steps?

Here, Kevin, 41, who shares one-year-old daughter Minnie with his partner, documentary presenter Stacey Dooley, joins TV Times for an exclusive interview about the role and what the future holds…

So, how did your appearance in Series 11 of Father Brown come about, Kevin?
