Dedicated to DUTY

PROCLAIMED KING

On 10 September 2022, two days after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, Charles carried out one of his first and most-important duties, when he was officially proclaimed monarch at the Accession Council, which took place at St James's Palace in London.

The ceremony was televised for the first time in history and, after the King made his public declaration, the proclamation was announced by the Garter King of Arms and then at various locations around the UK and the Commonwealth realms.

PRIVATE AUDIENCE

As UK Governments are formed, the monarch must accept the resignation of a Prime Minister before appointing their successor and asking them to assemble an administration. Each week, King Charles then has a private audience with the Prime Minister, but details of these chats are never revealed. While his mother witnessed 15 different Prime Ministers come and go during her 70-year reign, Charles has already worked alongside two in mere months! His first was Liz Truss, who was greeted by his mother two days before the Queen passed away, then Rishi Sunak became Prime Minister just 49 days later on 25 October. It was Charles' duty to appoint him.
