THE NIGHT CALLER

NEW SUNDAY-WEDNESDAY,

9PM, CHANNEL 5 THRILLER

The power of influence is the intoxicating theme driving Channel 5's latest psychological thriller, The Night Caller.

Airing across four consecutive nights this week, the story centres around lonely 50-something cabby Tony Conroy (played by Sherwood and Spooks star Robert Glenister), who develops a twisted outlook on the world as he listens to DJ Lawrence Brightway (Gotham's Sean Pertwee), the charismatic host of radio show NightTalk, while ferrying passengers around Liverpool.

Growing increasingly disillusioned with his life, the ex-teacher plucks up the courage to call in and share his woes with Lawrence, but his empathy only fuels Tony's obsession and results in him becoming a regular caller to the programme.

Things, however, take a more sinister turn when Tony discovers that his friend, night-cafe worker Rosa (former Casualty favourite Suzanne Packer), is under threat from her vengeful ex, Ste (The Tudors and Red Rock star Anthony Brophy). Taking Lawrence's words as gospel, he's plunged into a murky world that there's no coming back from...

*Something just flips in Tony, explains Robert. 'DJ Lawrence has got inside his head and he does something terrible that isn't premeditated but which changes everything. I don't think anyone will be able to anticipate how things unfold!" Here, Sean, Robert and Suzanne introduce TV Times to their characters and reveal what sets this drama apart...
