For some people, the desire to create beautiful things is so innate and strong that the path to do so finds them. Elizaveta Borzunova, founder and designer of Liza Borzaya is one such creative geniuses. Her love for unique, one-of-a-kind jewellery pieces, made this untrained designer to pivot into the world of jewellery designing in 2015. Now there is no looking back. She creates museum-worthy pieces using the finest of diamonds and colour gemstones and for her jewellery is a ‘feeling’ and not just something you wear.
Where does your passion for jewellery stem from?
My mother loved jewellery; she had a lot of them. I rummaged through her jewellery boxes when she let me. However, I did not have a dream of becoming a jeweller. I wanted to be a designer, but I didn't know in what field. I received a conservative education - financial, but the path of jewellery designing found me by itself. I didn’t receive any formal education in jewellery designing, so I had to compensate for the lack of knowledge in the process on an individual basis. I couldn't get away from fate!
What do you love the most about creating/designing jewellery?
I really love interacting with clients. The Liza Borzaya brand started as a jewelry atelier and still, I love to develop special orders: to embody ideas and dreams, to work in tandem and to exceed their expectations. As with collections, I love to see how a small idea turns into a whole line, how sketches come to life in metal, and how a finished piece of jewellery lives with the client.
How much does your Russian upbringing/culture influence your thought process and design sensibilities?
