Brisbane-born star Vidya Makan steps into the shoes of America's founding mother in the long-awaited return of Hamilton

If Vidya Makan was to describe her Hamilton love story, she would set the scene with an accidental meet-cute. “In my third year of uni, my family and I went on a trip to New York. One night, we were walking past a theatre in Manhattan and there were these candlesticks and wooden tables out the front,” recalls the 30-year-old musical-theatre performer. “At the time we hadn’t heard of the production, but I later realised that was the original Hamilton set!”

Less than a decade later, Makan would get a phone call to say she had landed the highly coveted role of Eliza Hamilton in the 2024 Australian production.
