There are a few elements that are archetypal of a distinguished luxury house: its savoir-faire, artistry and its logo, a visual symbol that is representative of the brand. Motifs also play a similar role and like all fashion greats, the house of Dior has its own tapestry of notable codes.
The Cannage, which Dior describes as "a concentration of the house's excellence", is one such code. First seen on the delicate braiding of Napoleon III-style chairs during Dior's autumn/winter 1951 haute couture collection, the recurring motif has since made its mark on a melange of the Parisian house's silhouettes. From bags such as the classic Lady Dior, the pattern has also found a home in the luxury house's clothing and accessories such as jewellery.
