FAIRLY FANTASTIC

The LVMH Watch Week comes to Singapore for the first time, giving us a preview of watchmaking directions in 2023

Typically the first major event on the global watch fair calendar, the LVMH show normally happens in Dubai. While it is possibly the smallest and tightest show of the year, confined as it is to just the aforementioned four brands, which is not even the entirety of the group’s watch and jewellery properties. It nevertheless does all the things a watch show should. It was Singapore’s first major global watch show, and larger than anything since Cortina Watch’s Jewels and Time show, and Tempus by The Hour Glass. Missing from this happy first for Singapore were the extras that go with the Dubai show, like the desert jaunts and falconry, which you might recall just from pictures of the event in the past. Of course, this particular show used to be in Geneva, happening alongside the old Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie and it was quite business-like there as well. For the record, we are only too happy to touch and feel real watches throughout the day at a resort like Capella, and then go home and sleep in our own beds.
