SANCTUARIES of JOY
Veranda|November - December 2024
When does a closet become a portal to our passions? We teamed up with three top tastemakers to imagine their pie-in-the-sky storage spaces, from a china-filled entertaining lab to a winemaker's exuberant workshop.

California Closets' aged bronze hardware and textural linen cabinetry finish conjure old-world elegance. OPPOSITE: Open shelving with integrated lighting showcases serving ware collections; table linens hang from a leather-clad rod.

A HIDDEN HOSTING STUDIO

"I'M A COLLECTOR OF ALL THINGS entertaining," says floral and event designer Keith G. Robinson. "I want to feel inspired to experiment with the beautiful things around me and create just the right look for whatever occasion we are celebrating."

Between the kitchen and dining room of his 1841 Georgia farmhouse, Redwine Plantation, is where Robinson imagines his ideal curio corner. Placemats, trays, chargers, and sterling flatware are stored in drawers, while candlesticks, vases, Paris porcelain (a love inherited from his grandmother), and more than 30 sets of antique china get top billing on open shelves. A genius move: a pullout shelf hidden behind a drawer that becomes a worktop for playing around with place settings.

Against a dusty sage backdrop, pieces from Robinson's prized Booths Chinese Tree collection frame a door that opens to five acres of gardens, where he forages for flowers to spin into scene-stealing arrangements. And in his final act of wizardry before guests arrive, Robinson draws a set of tapestry-inspired draperies to conceal his workshop. They'll never know.
