HUMOUR in UNIFORM

I got sloppy with my shaving one morning and nicked my skin.

I stanched the bleeding and ran off to school where I was a substitute teacher. As it was Veterans Day, I let my first graders know that I, too, was a veteran. As I was talking, a student pointed to my face and said, “Your ear is bleeding.” As I wiped off the blood, his classmate whispered solemnly, “Remember, he was in the war.” —Alan Whittemore
