Janice Tan and Richard Weiss knew they wanted their wedding to be held in two cities: one in Sydney and one in Kuala Lumpur. For their Sydney wedding, they decided to have it at Richard’s parents’ private estate in the Blue Mountains. However, the timing of their wedding, March 21, 2021, also happened to fall during a very heavy, “once in a century” flood. Janice, a doctor who was named as one of Australia’s Brilliant Women in Digital Health in 2022, recalls, “The day started off with us feeling disappointed and fearful but those feelings soon turned into pure gratitude to see that almost all of the guest list braved the rain to attend our special day.”
Intricately and beautifully planned by bespoke wedding planner Alison Hughes, a rose garden was created on top of the hill for the ceremony and a customised marquee constructed on the grounds for their reception. The rustic interior, inspired by autumnal tones punctuated with bouquet arrangements was a refreshing sight despite the gloomy weather.
Walking down the aisle in a stunning all-white gown, Janice was greeted with familiar beaming faces. Surrounded by close friends and family, the loving couple exchanged vows and got married high on the mountains.
