Chasing me around the backyard with a spider on a broom, my older brother, Colin, loved to frighten me as a young girl.
I've always had a genuine fear of creepy-crawlies. So when I grew up and married my hubby, Michael, then 32, in 1971, I gave him the role of designated spider killer.
My hair could do with a refresh, I thought, as I peered in the bathroom mirror one day.
Michael and I were due to go and see our grandson, Martin, 17, perform with his band that night, so I went to the shops for some boxed hair dye to touch up my roots.
Pulling a shower cap over my head to help develop the dye, I jumped in fright when it felt like something was scrambling into my right ear.
The feeling disappeared as quickly as it came and, when I felt in my ear, there was nothing there.
