It was Halloween and, even though my kids had long grown up and left the nest, I still bought lollies to hand out to the local children.

I watched them walk down the street in their 'scary' costumes. It wasn't long before I heard the bell ring.

'Trick or treat!' a voice yelled, and I ran to the door holding a bag of fun-size chocolate bars.

I opened the door with a smile and a large plastic human skeleton fell on me! 'Argh!' I screamed, collapsing backwards into the hallway in shock.

Then I heard laughter coming from the bushes.

I knew it had to be 14-year-old Ryan from up the road and his aggravating gang. They must have rigged the skeleton above my door so it'd fall when I opened it.

'I could have had a heart attack!' I yelled.

Going back inside and slamming the door, I heard the gang run away, laughing.
