EXTENSION GETS THE GREEN LIGHT

SANDHURST Town president Tony Dean has thanked Football Association chiefs for their understanding after answering calls for an extension to the season for clubs at Steps 5 and 6.

Waterlogged pitches and unavailability have posed an administrative nightmare for the Berkshire club who, prior to the decision, had 11 games to play in just 10 days before the conclusion of their Combined Counties Division One season.

Despite this, manager Jordan Ive has led the Fizzers into title contention but with as many as six games in hand over their rivals, Bottom Meadow chiefs feared that the club wouldn't be able to manage the heavy workload with such a young squad of players.

Relief

Now with the extension granted for another week, until Monday May 1, the Fizzers - along with several other Step 5 and 6 clubs up and down the country at least have a bit of leeway in rearranging unscheduled matches.
