Yet Paul Mullin, one of the documentary’s standout performers both on and off the pitch, has set the 32-year-old an intimidatingly high bar.
Mullin, below, scored 47 goals in all competitions for Wrexham last season, a figure that fairly reflected the forward’s technical supremacy.
A blind man on a galloping horse could see that Mullin was operating miles below his level, and if you can’t find one of those then just ask Anel Ahmedhodzic. The Bosnian international, now a Premier League player with Sheffield United, was given an absolute chasing at Bramall Lane in February.
Naturally, the assumption is that Grigg will also take the National League to task. Sure, he’s four years older. But by any measure, he’s a better player.
While Mullin had one outstanding season in the EFL before joining Wrexham, Grigg has won four promotions to the Championship, twice been named in the League One team of the season and is second on the all-time list of third-tier goalscorers.
Before anybody gets carried away, however, it is worth remembering that Grigg and Mullin are very different players, with very different strengths.
