BOSS Jamie Heapy spotted a sparkle in the eyes of Didcot Town’s players on Wednesday and wants history to repeat itself – in more ways than one.
The Loop Meadow legend, known as ‘Mr Didcot’ having played more than 850 games for the club, including FA Vase glory and captaining the Railwaymen to promotion from Step 4 via the play-offs in 2009, admits this season’s incremental success has come as a pleasant surprise.
Heapy anticipated another year of progress towards the top half of Southern Division One Central rather than the top end but third spot, followed by a midweek play-off semi-final victory over Walthamstow, leaves Didcot one match away from a return to Step 3 – 12 years after relinquishing that proud status.
