After CBSE checks, state to go after dummy schools

A day after a Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) team conducted a surprise inspection to evaluate violations of the board's by-laws and the prevalence of "dummy" students, the Gujarat education department is mulling action against schools that are lax about the importance of regular classes. Education department officials said they too will catch schools demeaning regular classes to promote dummy schools if they receive any complaints from any quarter - parents, schools, or others.

Principal Secretary of the education department (primary and secondary education), Mukesh Kumar, said that if schools are encouraging non-attendance, they will take it seriously upon receiving complaints.
