The newly elected management of Applewoods Township in Shela area of the city has cracked the whip on residents who do not pay the monthly maintenance. The management has also issued a circular restraining such members from renting their apartments to the tenant until they pay their maintenance dues. Some members of the township have objected to the decision on the grounds that the society is levying maintenance on a square feet basis, in violation of the Gujarat High Court order. They say the maintenance should be charged on a unit basis as all members get equal common facilities.
Applewoods Township, one of the biggest housing societies in the western part of the city, recently held elections on August 11 to elect nine members of the management committee. The society has around 1000 apartments. Recently a controversy erupted when the society during its elections for the new management body made a provision to bar members who did not pay their maintenance and other dues.
