Despite claims by the city police to have cracked down on speeding, two recent incidents of reckless driving have left residents questioning the effectiveness of traffic enforcement. Over the last 48 hours, a drunk driver ploughed into parked cars, a speeding vehicle hit two cyclists, and a car rammed into vegetable vendors. These incidents cast a shadow over claims of increased traffic vigilance and the deployment of speed guns.

Though in-charge Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic) Sharad Singhal said that all efforts are being made to prosecute the rash and negligent drivers, the efforts cops make to nail traffic norm violators are barely visible to people.

Speeding Audi wreaks havoc on Ambli-Bopal Road

Early Monday morning, residents of Ambli-Bopal Road were jolted awake by a terrifying crash. Ripal Panchal, 41, allegedly under the influence of alcohol or drugs, lost control of his Audi. The car first hit several parked vehicles before careening onto the BRTS corridor.
