The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday directed authorities to implement within 15 days the mandatory requirement for two-wheeler drivers and pillion riders to wear helmets in Ahmedabad city. It may be recalled that the Vijay Rupani-led government had made wearing helmets voluntary within city limits in December 2019.
Calling for a holistic approach to traffic management, the bench of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice Pranav Trivedi also directed the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to take measures to prevent wrong-side driving on roads. The bench also asked the authorities to identify accident-prone zones in the city and put up warning signs at these spots.
Further hearing in the matter will happen after a fortnight.
