Shraavan effect: Sale of eggs dips by 50%

With most people avoiding eggs and non-veg food during the holy month, restaurants serving these experience the burn

The beginning of the holy Shraavan month has resulted in a 50% drop in the business of egg sellers in Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat. Even restaurants serving non-vegetarian food are experiencing a drop of 2530% in business in the city.

As per egg wholesalers and retailers, the daily egg consumption is estimated at around 1 million pieces per day in Ahmedabad alone, which has come down to around 5 lakh per day as of today.

They say it's primarily due to the Shraavan month, as people of all age groups observe fasts or prefer to avoid eating eggs and non-veg in this holy month. This affects even the business of restaurants serving vegetarian food only, as many restrict food intake and avoid eating out.
