Deepjoy Das got excited when, at around 12:45 pm on Saturday, he got to know of a second show of British rock band Coldplay in Ahmedabad. Positioned close to the five-lakh figure in the queue for the first show, he had failed to get a ticket when the sale began at noon. So when he was placed 60,101 in the queue for the just-announced show, he was quite sure he would be lucky the second time. Unfortunately for him, the tickets were sold out by the time he advanced to 25,000.
Coldplay has been the talk of the nation for quite some time now, with multiple shows selling out within minutes of going on sale, and queues for tickets running into lakhs. The Narendra Modi Stadium, the venue for the concert on January 25 and 26, has a capacity of over one lakh and is the biggest stadium the band has ever performed in. So, two shows sold out in less than an hour each, with a few lakh fans left disappointed, is indication clear enough of the popularity of the band.
The globally renowned band has left a lasting impact on the music industry since its inception back in 1997. With their unique sound and emotionally charged lyrics, the group comprising Chris Martin (vocals, piano), Jonny Buckland (guitar), Guy Berryman (bass) and Will Champion (drums) has achieved monumental success, amassing an extensive fan base, including a particularly passionate following in India.
