Almost a quarter of those who tried to speak to their doctor could not get hold of them on the same day. This is the equivalent of 4.8 million Britons.
Of these, two million had to wait several days to make contact, while more than 1.1 million were completely unable to access their NHS GP in the month, the analysis from the Liberal Democrats suggests.
This means one in 20 people were unable to contact their GP within a month.
