3,000 violent crimes against women and girls reported a day

It means violence against women and girls has reached nearly 3,000 crimes recorded every day, said a report for the National Police Chiefs' Council and the College of Policing.

Such crimes accounted for just under 20% of all police-recorded crime, excluding fraud, in England and Wales between 2022 and 2023, said the National Policing Statement for Violence Against Women and Girls.

The report estimated at least one in every 12 women will be a victim per year equating to two million women with the true number expected to be much higher because of unreported crimes.
