THE days of being told to "pick up your pen and turn over your paper" are numbered, as school exams are due to go completely digital.

Leading exam board Pearson plans to offer history and business studies GCSEs on screens from 2027 with other exams, including A-levels, expected to follow suit from 2030.

Teenagers' increasing use of screens is driving the change, despite warnings around artificial intelligence and that pupils with more access to tech at home would have an advantage.

Some subjects, like computer science, are already examined digitally while boards such as AQA and OCR have piloted tech-based alternatives.
