THE Labour government has been accused of publishing new laws without carrying out proper checks on the effect they will have on people's lives.

Ministers have repeatedly issued impact assessments that are either late or inadequate, analysis shows.

Labour peer Margaret Ritchie raised concerns about the documents, which are used by ministers and Parliament to evaluate how proposed laws will affect the public, as well as their cost and potential risks.

She asked the Government "what steps it is taking to address the late submission of regulatory impact assessments for legislative proposals".
