Lacklustre Lions frustration for fans

William, alongside 30,000 fans and pop star Ed Sheeran in the Frankfurt Arena, had hoped to see the Three Lions roar and seal their place in the last 16 yesterday.

Instead, Gareth Southgate's men stuttered to a disappointing 1-1 draw. They remain top of their group, with four points, and in a good position to qualify for the knockout stages.

But the performance was unconvincing and the Prince, who is president of the Football Association, and the nation's fans will have to hold their collective breath when England take on Slovenia in the final group clash on Tuesday.

Some supporters booed England off at fulltime. And former Three Lions captain Alan Shearer, working as a pundit for the BBC, was also less than impressed with the team.

He said: "You can see players lying on their backs they look absolutely shattered, the England players. There's no excuse for that.

"There was no energy, no pace to the game.

We didn't run in behind until the last 10 or 15 minutes, we got caught too many times on the ball, too many sloppy passes and, in truth, Denmark were the better team and deserved to win.

But you get a point, lots of improvement to be made."

Earlier, the animated and suited heir to the throne was seen gesticulating wildly after skipper Harry Kane fired in after 18 minutes.
