Majority disgusted at anti-Christian bigotry by Lib Dems
Daily Express|June 26, 2024
A RECENT poll reveals an overwhelming majority of Britons, and even many Liberal Democrat voters, oppose the deselection of David Campanale.

Majority disgusted at anti-Christian bigotry by Lib Dems

The former award-winning BBC journalist was removed as the Lib Dem candidate for Sutton and Cheam over his views on issues of conscience, like euthanasia.

Mr Campanale was barred from standing as a would-be MP because of "animosity" from party members, whom he says "mocked and abused" his beliefs. He is now suing the Lib Dems under the Equality Act.

In a coup for common sense, the poll of more than 2,000 British adults for Whitestone Insight found 75 per cent disagreed with the deselection.

Among Lib Dem voters, 57 per cent thought he should not have been forcibly stood down.

These numbers make it clear the quiet majority of Britons strongly disagree with marginalising Christians in politics, simply for holding religious beliefs.

This quiet majority opposes political elites who no-platform, sideline or deselect figures from the SNP's Kate Forbes to the defenestrated former Lib Dem leader, Tim Farron because of their faith. The Anglican Bishop of Winchester, Philip Mounstephen, hit the nail on the head by suggesting that today, former Liberal prime minister William Gladstone wouldn't make it onto the Lib Dem list of candidates.

WE'VE seen case after case of committed Christians being punished by their own parties for staying true to their deeply held moral convictions.
