But despite the midwife's declaration that she is jetting to New York to patch up her rocky marriage to Sir Matthew Aylward, actress George is not leaving the drama.

Helen Insiders say the star - one of six original cast members from 2012 who are still in the BBC show will be filming series 14 in the spring.

But it's a different story for Olly Rix, 39, who plays posh Sir Matthew and is leaving after four years.

The "door has been left open", however, meaning a return has not been ruled out.
