Moscow accuses UK of 'direct escalation' over weapons claim

MOSCOW accused David Cameron of a "direct escalation" after the Foreign Secretary said Ukraine had the right to hit targets inside Russia with British weapons.

Lord Cameron signalled his approval for strikes on Kremlin territory as he announced the UK's latest batch of military aid.

On a visit to Kyiv, he promised £3billion a year of military help "for as long as is necessary". The latest funding will provide equipment to repair damaged infrastructure, help physically protect existing infrastructure and provide back-up support including generators.

Lord Cameron said: "In terms of what the Ukrainians do, in our view it is their decision about how to use these weapons.

"They're defending their country, they were illegally invaded by Putin, they must take those steps."
