Power station accused of burning rare forest wood

A POWER station is burning wood from rare "old growth" forests in Canada to power UK homes, campaigners have claimed.

Drax, Britain's largest power station, in Selby, North Yorks, sourced whole logs from primary and old growth forests, which have unique habitats and ecological functions, it was said.

Campaign groups Conservation North, Biofuelwatch and Bulkley Valley Stewardship Coalition analysed data published by British Columbia's government.
