The dog lunged at Gilana Milner, 19, while she was changing his water bowl.
The animal called Hugo dragged her to the ground - mauling her chest and leg - and staff had to fight him off when he refused to unclamp his jaws.
But Gilana does not blame the dog - the largest US bully breed despite needing emergency surgery. She is still working with animals and has an ambition to become an employee of the RSPCA.
She believes the ban on XL bullies is unfair, saying it is not the dogs' fault they are aggressive. Gilana said: "I'm lucky to be alive. He was just ragging me around. There was nothing I could do.
