The Prime Minister collected the flame Commonwealth War Graves Commission's director general Claire Horton, and passed it to former Royal Navy sailor Peter Kent at Horse Guards, London, yesterday.
The torch will travel around the nation before accompanying veterans to France for official commemorations in June.
Mr Sunak said: "It was an honour to hand the D-Day 80 Torch of Commemoration to Peter Kent, a surviving veteran who fought so bravely 80 years ago.
