BRITAIN'S oldest man, who was shot in the leg during the D-Day landings, is celebrating his 110th birthday today with a wartime themed party.
Ex-Desert Rat sniper Donald Rose served in North Africa, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany during the Second World War, earning medals including the Legion d'Honneur - France's highest award.
He will mark the milestone birthday at his care home in Ilkeston, Derbys - and has joked that he owed his long life to his insides being "pickled" by downing salty water and dog biscuits in the war.
