Women 'left Madeleine suspect's squat afraid he was going to rape them'

A WOMAN has told a court she feared she would be raped at the home of Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner after being introduced to him by a mutual friend.

Andrea Barth, now 49, joined friend Yvonne Baumann on holiday in Portugal in 2003, with Brueckner collecting the pair from the airport and taking them to his remote squat on the Algarve.

He showed the pair his bedroom where "there was a video camera with video cassettes lying around", she told the hearing.

Brueckner went out that night and the women did not join him.

Ms Barth said: "When he went, I had a strange feeling and I didn't feel safe. I'd said to Frau Baumann, was it a good idea to stay here?

"It just did not feel right. It was a squat and there were no neighbours, there was no one around.
