A tale of two Harves: Sub before the break, a matchwinner after it as Toon wake from slumbers to go third in the table

EDDIE HOWE won the battle of the Brit bosses after his side finally woke from their slumbers.

His English compatriot Gary O'Neil, yet to come out on top against Howe in six attempts, could barely believe his eyes after a physical and dynamic midfield of Andre, Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes had dominated until Newcastle pulled off a smash and grab.

For 75 minutes it hadn't been a good look for Howe (commiserating with O'Neil, below), with sporting director Paul Mitchell sitting in the front row of the main stand after behind-the-scenes friction between the pair.

Wolves had deservedly led through a brilliantly crafted goal finished off by Lemina and had steamrollered the Toon in the midfield engine room.

But the returning Fabian Schar led the recovery with a thunderbolt 25-yarder which took a big deflection off the unfortunate Craig Dawson after a short pass from Bruno Guimaraes.

The Swiss, who was back after a three-game ban, is never shy to try his luck from distance.
