CAMPING PALS HORROR

THE parents of the four friends who died on a weekend camping trip to Snowdonia had spent a sleepless night, desperate for news from the search teams out hunting for their sons.

Late yesterday morning, police had to break the devastating news to them that all four - Jevon Hirst, Harvey Owen, Wilf Henderson and Hugo Morris - were dead.

Their bodies had been found in their silver Ford Fiesta, which had crashed off a road into a river.

A massive hunt had been launched for the boys - a 16-year-old, 18-year-old and two 17-year-olds after they failed to return - home on Monday. The teenagers from Shrewsbury, Shrops, were all studying A-Levels at the same college and had been due to camp in Snowdonia, North Wales.

Their worried families made desperate appeals on social media after being unable to contact them by phone or WhatsApp.

At 10am yesterday, police got a call from a member of the public who had seen a silver Ford Fiesta upside down in a river next to the A4085 in Garreg, North Wales.

Emergency crews raced to the scene, but all four boys were pronounced dead. Police said in a statement that it appeared to have been a "tragic accident".

One of the boy's grandfathers lives in Harlech, about eight miles from the scene of the accident.

It is understood they had stayed at his home on Saturday night before embarking on their trip the next morning. The crash is believed to have happened as they drove towards their planned camping spot in Snowdonia.

The alarm was only raised when they failed to return to Shrewsbury on Monday afternoon.

Wilf's heartbroken girlfriend Maddi paid tribute to him, posting: "I love you so much, baby.
