Former England batsman's great job with Afghanistan puts him in the frame for big guns

JONATHAN TROTT'S stock is on the rise after masterminding a second historic World Cup win with Afghanistan

The Afghan head coach, who took over in July last year, saw his side add an eight-wicket win over bitter rivals Pakistan to their 69-run victory over England - their first two World Cup successes over Test playing nations.

And while the players are taking plenty of deserved plaudits, Trott has done his coaching credentials the world of good, if and when further opportunities arise.

The England jobs currently held by Brendon McCullum and Matthew Mott will come up for grabs at some point, with the white ball side under increasing pressure.

And Trott could do no worse than impress the man who makes the decision as to who will get them.
