HELL... AND HIGH WATER

ROADS have become rivers and over 1,000 homes have been evacuated in yet more catastrophic flooding across the country.

Some people made their way to safety in boats as the rivers Trent, Thames and Severn burst their banks.

The Environment Agency has issued 302 flood warnings and 332 alerts in England. It said most of England will be affected for five more days with almost every river exceptionally high.

There were also two flood warnings from Natural Resources Wales.

Caroline Douglass, director of the Environment Agency, said: "Following Storm Babet and Storm Ciaran, the ground was incredibly saturated. That's been topped up over the pre Christmas period. Rainfall from this week added to that, so there's nowhere for the water to go."
