HARRY BROOK wrote his name into Headingley folklore with an innings forged under the most extreme pressure to keep the Ashes alive.
On this famous old ground, where drama and excitement seem to go hand in glove with Ashes cricket, Yorkshire's own took the series off life support and, with the help of Chris Woakes and the long handle of Mark Wood, gave it the most glorious of shots in the arm.
It was Woakes, playing in his first Test match for 15 months, who struck the winning runs, cut away for four towards the Western Terrace, to take England past their target of 251 and to the warm embrace of a three-wicket win.
But it was Brook's 75 from 93 balls that took England most of the way, and showed that he has the temperament to go with the big-hitting technique that is demanded in the toughest of situations.
