Caroline Darian may never know the full extent of the horrors inflicted on her by her twisted rapist of a father.
But as Dominique Pelicot, the Monster of Avignon, begins a 20-year sentence, his daughter is determined to help protect others from the same fate.
Pelicot, 72, was convicted of aggravated rape after videos proved he had invited dozens of men to abuse his wife, Gisele, while she was unconscious.
Caroline, 45, is sure he drugged her too. But apart from two photographs of her lying in the foetal position on her side, there is little proof of what may have happened to her.
Not knowing will always be agony. But Caroline draws strength from campaigning for other victims of sexual abuse, especially those who have been drugged by their abusers.
She launched the #MendorsPas campaign meaning "don't put me under" - which supports victims of drug rapes and aims to raise awareness of the issue.
"I didn't have a clue about drugging or drug-assisted rape [before her dad's arrest], Caroline told the BBC.
"I knew about GHB, the date rape drug, in nightclubs and bars, but I didn't know it was so much more widespread and mostly happened using the contents of the family medicine cabinet."
Since the trial ended last month, the Pelicot family are trying to rebuild their lives, with Caroline saying Gisele, 72, is recovering and "doing well".
She agrees that her mum, who insisted on waiving her right to anonymity because "the shame has to change sides", is an icon and has helped to redirect the narrative about rape in France.
