KEIR Starmer yesterday confirmed Labour would keep the controversial two-child benefit limit as voters get ready for three crunch by-elections.
Mr Starmer insisted he is "not changing that policy" despite mounting pressure to ditch it. His stance risks fuelling internal Labour rows as MPs prepare for the summer recess.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak faces an uphill battle to revive flagging Tory fortunes. Defence Secretary Ben Wallace became the latest top Conservative to announce he was quitting at the next general election, taking the current total of MPs stepping down to 43.
He intends to leave his post at the next reshuffle.
