RORY MCILROY broke down in tears after ending his emotional year on a high by equalling Seve Ballesteros' tally of six Race to Dubai titles.

The Ulsterman announced he planned to divorce in May and then suffered more heartache by losing the US Open in June to extend his winless streak in Majors to over 10 years.

And the outspoken world No.3, who had another nearmiss at the Irish Open, continues to be involved in talks over the future of golf.

But yesterday Mellroy was able to celebrate with his wife Erica and daughter Poppy after winning the DP World Tour Championship by two shots in dramatic style from Rasmus Hojgaard. His third consecutive Race to Dubai Crown also drew him level with the number won by European legend Ballesteros.
