Lung cancer still the most deadly

It robs more years of life than others

LUNG cancer is still claiming the most years of life lost than any other, new analysis shows.

Cancer Research UK has conducted unprecedented research over 30 years into the time patients are robbed of by the disease.

Two million years of life are estimated to be lost overall each year, based on average life expectancy and of those, lung cancer claimed 500,000.

The study compared the period from 1988 to 1992, when the chest disease was top of years lost, with 2013 to 2017.

Bowel cancer came second with 214,000 years of life stolen. Breast tumours claimed 197,000 years, followed by 127,000 for pancreatic cancer and 114,000 for oesophageal cancer.
