JAMIE GEORGE revealed it was his mother's dying wish he should take the England captaincy, as she neared the end of her life.
Jane George lost her battle with lung cancer last Wednesday, having told her son she was terminally ill the day he was offered the leadership last month.
George was in two minds whether to accept the job in January, given the turmoil his family was going through but parents Ian and Jane persuaded him to do it.
The pair had not missed a game the Saracens man played home or away in his England and Lions career, which has seen him amass international caps. And George has vowed to honour the memory of his mother in tomorrow's Calcutta Cup clash at Murrayfield, where his dad and uncle Robbie will be in the stands.
