Surrey legend Alec fired up for titles after history lessons from dad Micky

SURREY legend Alec Stewart revealed he was fired up by his 91-year-old father’s history lesson after the Brown Caps sealed back-to-back County Championship titles. 

As news filtered through to the Ageas Bowl that nearest rivals Essex, needing maximum batting points 120 miles away at Northampton, had been bowled out for 211, off-spinner Will Jacks (inset) pulled up in delivery stride to acknowledge the cheers of travelling Surrey fans.

And director of cricket Stewart stepped on to the outfield to embrace his players after sealing a 21st county champions’ pennant at The Oval.

They are the first to defend the crown successfully since Yorkshire in 2015, and only the land of the White Rose (33) has claimed the title more often than Surrey in the competition’s 133-year history.
