A MONTH'S rain fell in just a few hours in some areas as sweltering temperatures gave way to thunder storms and hail.
Hot, humid air triggered towering clouds which caused particularly heavy outbursts in the Midlands and central southern England.
Forecasters warned the storms were capable of bringing flash flooding.
