Ukraine fights 124 battles in a day to block Russia blitz

UKRAINIAN forces have fought an astounding 124 battles in just 24 hours to beat back a major Russian push.

Vladimir Putin's military has concentrated on the eastern and southern fronts in an apparent bid to draw Ukraine's stretched army into a deadly war of attrition along the 600 mile front line.

Despite waves of Russian troops being poured into battle, a Ukraine military source told the Mirror: "The situation in the combat zone is difficult but under the control of Ukrainian defenders."

Russia's Defence Ministry claimed on Sunday that its troops captured two villages in the east.
