DISTRAUGHT Andy Murray is a huge fitness doubt for his final Wimbledon after pulling out of the Cinch Championships with a back injury.

Asked if he will be able to play at his home Grand Slam starting on July 1, the three-time Grand Slam champion said: "I wouldn't know."

Murray won his first ATP Tour match since March in the first round on Tuesday but was back on Centre Court less than 24 hours later. And he lasted only 23 minutes before retiring with "neural pain" in his lower back. It is the first time Murray, who had a metal hip fitted in 2019, has retired from a match since the 2013 Rome Masters.

"I have been struggling with my back for a while," he said. "It was pretty sore in my match yesterday. I wasn't comfortable playing but I was able to manage it.
