HIS ego has no bounds, his antics are embarrassing, his behaviour does his teammates a grave disservice.

After Portugal's shoot-out win over Slovenia, where are the plaudits for an extraordinary goalkeeping performance from Diogo Costa? They have been washed away by Cristiano Ronaldo's tears.

They have been hushed by the preening superstar's histrionics.

Whatever prompted the Ronaldo waterworks - and there is some suggestion it was the sight of his mother shedding a tear in the stands they were, in the end, a cringeworthy distraction from what should have been the story of the night.
